Never Say Never!

Updated: May 7, 2023

My high school Principal, Mrs Drayton, God rest her soul, told my mother that I'd write a book one day. I wish she was still on this Earth so I could show her 'Finding Miriama', my first, and hopefully not my only novel. It took me another 50 years to do it, but here I am!

My original intention was to write a family history for my children, but as often happens, I got sidetracked. I'm sure every family has skeletons in their closets, and mine is no exception. As a result, the family history turned into an historical novel. It is based on real people, and many events did happen, but I filled in the gaps with my imagination. Fortunately, all of the main characters passed away over a century ago, so there have been no privacy issues to deal with (so far). I hope they would be pleased with their portrayal - apart from perhaps Joseph, my five times great grandfather and main protagonist. Sorry Joseph, but without you my book would probably not have been so interesting!

At this stage, I have sold around 30 copies in the US, England, France, Australia and New Zealand, and I don't think they are all my friends! It's such a bonus for me, as I didn't write it for money or fame, but rather for personal satisfaction - and I have certainly achieved that! I must admit that I get quite teary when I get a positive response (and I've had three so far, and no negatives yet), and I compare it to giving birth only not quite as painful! After all of the blood, sweat and tears the end result is totally worth it.

This blog is my first on this new webpage so I'll keep it short. I have a number of other blogs online, mainly about travelling, but if you are interested in the background to this novel please click on the Blogger icons above.
