I haven’t written a lot lately, travel getting the the way. But I thought I’d mention an interesting snippet, based on Part 2 of the book, which takes place largely in India. As with Aotea in NZ, I wrote about it without having been there. Joseph and Catherine stay in Agra for a while, and now having seen things they would have seen, it made the story more meaningful to me. The Taj Mahal , the fort and the colonial houses are how I imagined them. The information that people gave us lined up with my research. However if I’d been here before writing I could have made more of the sounds and smells, and the oppressant heat.
The house below where we are staying (not the Taj:) was around in colonial times, and funnily they see no need to maintain it. But it’s all part of the vibe.
As I write this I’m just getting over Delhi Belly, which if you’ve been to Bali, will understand!
The house in the picture is where we’re staying until next Tuesday
